Frederic and William Speed papers, 1857-1874.

The Frederic and William Speed papers contain letters written by Frederic Speed, who served in the 5th and 13th Maine Infantry Regiments and as assistant adjutant general during the Civil War, and his brother, William Speed of the 24th Michigan Infantry Regiment, who was mortally wounded on the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg.
